A dream coastal move for Northamptonshire couple
Steve Loader, 64, a software engineer, and Jane Mills, 57, who works in finance at Woodhall Spa, had been living together in Northamptonshire on the outskirts of Kettering for over two decades. With Steve’s two grown children from his previous marriage now living in New Zealand and Leicestershire, the couple realised their 4-bed home was becoming too much maintenance.
Looking to downsize and transition into retirement, Steve and Jane had always dreamed of living near the coast. Frequent visits to the East Coast of Lincolnshire, where they loved to camp and watch planes from the nearby RAF base in Coningsby, sparked the idea of moving to the area. In early 2023, they decided it was time to make their dream a reality.
Although initially deterred by the challenging housing market, which led them to wait another year before selling in Feb 2024, their property sold in just six weeks, allowing them to purchase a 3-bedroom detached home at Chestnut Homes’ Kings Manor development in Coningsby.
Steve said: “We knew we wanted to live by the coast, and we’ve spent a lot of time in our 22 years together getting to know the area of Coningsby. We weren’t initially looking for a new build, but after visiting the Chestnut Homes development, we instantly fell in love. The next day, we went back for a second viewing and ended up putting down a deposit right away.
“The location was perfect, as I can see the RAF memorial flights from my bedroom window, and as avid motorcycle riders, Jane and I love riding around the scenic routes of Lincolnshire.”
Having moved into their Chestnut Home on 12 July, Steve and Jane embraced the opportunity to create a space that reflected their tastes. He added: “Choosing a new build meant starting with a blank canvas. Although it’s been hard work, we’ve enjoyed making it our own.
“The support from Chestnut Homes made the process even smoother. Lindsey and Jane from the sales team were incredibly helpful and answered all of our questions which was appreciated since we lived two hours away and couldn’t visit quickly. Even after we moved, the staff have been attentive and checked in to make sure everything is going well.”
Thanks to the sale of their previous home, Steve and Jane were able to use the equity to purchase their new Chestnut Home mortgage-free. The move to Chestnut Homes’ Kings Manor development has allowed the couple to look towards retirement and enjoy the stunning surroundings they’ve always loved.
Helene Key, sales manager at Chestnut Homes, said: “We’re seeing more people from out of the area choose to settle in Lincolnshire, whether that’s to downsize, find a family home or start their journey on the property ladder.
“We’re not only building homes, but also a strong sense of community, so we’re always delighted when people like Steve and Jane choose to embrace living in a new build development.
“With Lincolnshire’s beautiful landscape and a variety of different developments across the county to suit your needs, there’s a Chestnut Home for everyone.”
