Alford drawing housebuyers from across the country

Nestled between the Lincolnshire Wolds and the east coast, the small market town of Alford is fast becoming a magnet for homebuyers looking to relocate to the county.

Located just a short drive from the sea, with beautiful countryside on its doorstep and good connections to neighbouring towns, Alford offers the perfect mix of convenience and serenity.

As the appeal of countryside living continues to grow, one Lincolnshire housebuilder has seen increasing levels of interest in its homes in Alford from house-hunters outside the county.

More than 50 per cent of enquiries for our Bridgeways development on the property website Rightmove have come from outside the LN or PE postcode areas, and nearly one-third of the residents at the site moved there from other parts of the UK.

One of those buyers is Leah Ganney, 37, who along with her partner Danny Inwood, 43, and 11-year-old daughter Abigail, relocated from Welling in South East London to Alford last year. Leah was pregnant with her second child, Daisy, at the time of their move.

The couple, who have since welcomed the arrival of their second child Daisy, upsized from a three-bedroom semi-detached home in Welling to a spacious four-bedroom detached home at Bridgeways for significantly less money.

Leah said: “My parents retired up here last year, and my sister followed them not long after. When we would go up to visit, we fell in love with the countryside and the people. This is just a completely different way of life to what we are used to. “With the baby on the way, we knew that we wanted more space, and the prices in London are just so high. There is so much more value for money in Lincolnshire. There are lots of lovely places to walk, from treks across the countryside to strolls around the town. It feels much safer too.”

Danny said: “We wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle of London Life. In Welling, we would have to travel quite far at the weekends to go to a country park, but now we have plenty of options for countryside walks, and we are just 15 minutes from the sea.”

Alford sits on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, perfect for those keen to explore the great outdoors while still enjoying the convenience of living in a town.

The surrounding countryside offers several great walking and cycling routes, enabling residents to escape from the crowds and enjoy the fresh air and beautiful scenery, while the town itself is well-known for its range of independent cafes and restaurants.

Helene Key, Sales Manager at Chestnut Homes, said: “Over the last 12 months we have seen increasing interest from house-hunters outside of Lincolnshire looking to relocate to the countryside and coast in search of more space and better value for money. “Alford’s close proximity to the coast is clearly one of its major attractions, with popular beach resorts Skegness, Ingoldmells and Mablethorpe all just a short drive away.

“However, that’s not the only thing which is attracting an increasing number of buyers to the town. It also boasts a wide range of amenities, beautiful countryside on its doorstep and, importantly for families, several highly rated schools.

“Our Bridgeways development is helping to meet the rising demand from people looking to move to Alford in search of a better quality of life – from first-time buyers seeking more space to growing families keen to put down roots and downsizers wanting to escape to the country.”

When beginning their search for homes in Lincolnshire, Leah and Danny were struck by how much more space they could get for their money in Alford compared to Welling.

Danny said: “House prices are very different here. We sold our old, three-bedroom semi-detached home in Welling for £330,000, and purchased this four-bedroom detached house which is so much bigger for £260,000.”

Danny continued: “Our home sits right across from a beautiful open space which is perfect for the children to play on. Just the other night we were running around out there, and the neighbours from a few doors down were out teaching their little girl to ride a bike. There is a lovely community forming.”

A selection of two, three and four-bedroom homes are currently available to purchase at Bridgeways, located off Willoughby Road in Alford.
