Chestnut Homes’ Construction Baron is unveiled
We have just unveiled our vibrant and colourful Construction Baron, which will take pride of place on the Barons’ Charter Trail in Lincoln next month (June).
We are sponsoring one of the 25 Barons being placed around the city for the trail, which will be unveiled during Lincoln’s Great Magna Carta weekend on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th June.
Our Baron sports a vivid design which has been meticulously painted by experienced graphic designer and local artist Peter Segasby. The design celebrates Lincoln’s buildings over the centuries and features iconic buildings, including the city’s Cathedral and Castle.
The Barons’ Charter Trail is one of the activities being held in Lincoln this summer to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the signing of the Magna Carta, one of the most famous legal and parliamentary documents in the world.
Sealed by King John under pressure from 25 rebellious barons in the 13th Century, the Magna Carta established for the first time that everyone, including the King, had to obey the law. There are only four surviving copies of the document, one of which is housed at Lincoln Cathedral.
David Newton, Managing Director of Chestnut Homes, said: “We are delighted to be involved in such a momentous celebration for Lincoln by sponsoring a Baron and we couldn’t be happier with the result. The design celebrates Lincoln’s iconic buildings and is eye-catching and colourful.
“We are now looking forward to seeing the Baron in place on the trail and hope it draws the eye of many visitors. We are thrilled to be supporting an event which will showcase our wonderful county to the world.
“We are also pleased to be supporting an important charity, as money raised from an auction of the Baron statues will be donated to The Trussell Trust, the national foodbank charity.”
It took Mr Segasby a total of 160 hours to decorate the Baron, which has been painted with five layers of acrylic paint and varnish to give the statue a bold, shiny finish.
The Barons’ Charter Trail Lincoln is a Wild in Art event brought to Lincoln by The Trussell Trust and Lincoln BIG and will form a mass participation public art event in the city.
A special Barons’ Charter Trail map will be available to visitors, so that they can follow it to discover all 25 of the Barons.
As well as the launch of the trail, the Great Magna Carta Weekend will feature a variety of entertainment and activities, including live music, fireworks on the Brayford Waterfront and the University of Lincoln campus, a Magna Party at Lincoln Castle, Medieval storytelling on Steep Hill and a procession of community flags.
