Sales Manager Barbara bids fond farewell

Our Sales Manager whose career spent selling new-build homes has spanned four decades has said a fond farewell to Chestnut Homes.

Barbara Goodwin, who has overseen sales here for six years, said goodbye to her colleagues last week as she departed to enjoy her retirement.

Barbara started working in new homes sales 32 years ago, leaving the retail industry in the 1980s to take on a role with Thomas Homes.

Her bubbly personality and strong work ethic shone as she moved up the career ladder, and Barbara joined developer David Wilson Homes as a Sales Manager, before being appointed Sales Director for the company’s North Midlands division within 18 months.

After a decade with David Wilson, Barbara turned her hand to selling newspaper advertising for publisher Johnston Press, before joining the team at Chestnut Homes in 2011.

She has spent the past six years at the company – which is based in Langworth, near Lincoln – selling new homes at its developments all over Lincolnshire.

Barbara said: “I have absolutely loved my job, I feel very proud of the career I have had and I can honestly say there’s not one thing in my 32-year career in sales that I would change.

“I don’t have any extravagant plans for retirement yet, I’m just looking forward to putting my feet up and relaxing with the family. Though it won’t be too long before my husband and I will take the caravan out to the Peak District and enjoy a nice getaway.

“I would be lying if I said I wouldn’t miss my job – though I won’t especially miss my two-hour commute!

“It’s been a fantastic experience working at Chestnut Homes and everyone in the team has helped to make it avery special place to work.”

As well as selling new homes at developments all over the county, Barbara has taken part in various company events during her time at Chestnut Homes – including entering the 100-mile C2C2C cycle ride from Lincoln to Chapel St Leonards and back.

As Barbara passes over the torch, she leaves Chestnut Homes as the company prepares to celebrate its 30th anniversary next year.

David Newton, Manging Director of Chestnut Homes, said: “I would like to say a big thank you to Barbara for all of her hard work over the past six years.

“Her infectious energy and larger-than-life personality will be missed throughout the company, and we’d all like to wish her a very happy retirement.”
