Chestnut Homes supports Walk to School Week in Wyberton and Lincoln

Schoolchildren in Wyberton and Lincoln will be donning high-visibility vests on the walk to school, thanks to our donation as we are supporting Wyberton Primary School’s and Sir Francis Hill Community Primary School, involvement in National Walk to School Week.

The annual campaign, which runs all this week, (Monday 20th to Friday 24th May), was established by the charity Living Streets to inspire children to lead more healthy lifestyles and to help reduce congestion and pollution. This year is Living Streets' 90th anniversary and to celebrate they have challenged schools to embrace walking by showing how it can benefit the whole community as well as improve individual wellbeing.

To encourage walking to school, we have donated 60 branded high-visibility vests, which will be given to pupils to wear on the walk to and from school.

Gemma Hodgson, Assistant Headteacher at Wyberton Primary School, said: “We were so pleased when Chestnut Homes got in touch to ask if they could make this donation to our pupils as part of National Walk to School Week. “The high-visibility vests look great and the children are really looking forward to wearing them on the walk to school. “Walking has so many benefits and we are extremely grateful to Chestnut Homes for their support in helping us to spread this message to our pupils.”

Gareth Nichols, Headteacher at Sir Francis Hill Community Primary School, said: “We are always keen to promote the health and environmental benefits of walking to our pupils and taking part in National Walk to School Week is a great way of doing this. “We are extremely grateful to Chestnut Homes for their kind donation of high-visibility vests, which will help to keep pupils safe on the walk to school and will also come in handy for future school trips.”

David Newton, Managing Director of Chestnut Homes, said: “We are firm believers in giving back to the local communities in which we build, so we are very pleased to make this donation of high-visibility vests to Wyberton Primary School and Sir Francis Hill Community Primary School “National Walk to School Week is a great campaign and we hope our support will help the school to encourage more of its pupils to recognise the benefits of walking.”

Chestnut Homes is currently building a range of two, three, four and five-bedroom homes at The Quadrant, off Tytton Lane East, Wyberton and a range of two and three-bedroom townhouses and two-bedroom apartments at the LN6 development, off Westbrooke Road in Lincoln.
