Lincoln Castle

Built almost 1000 years ago by William the Conquerer, Lincoln castle is famously home to one of four last remaining official copies of the Magna Carta.

From 2010 to 2015 Lincoln Castle underwent a major £22m restoration project with funding from Heritage Lottery Fund, Lincolnshire County Council, European Regional Development Fund, David Ross Foundation and private donations.  The project involved the restoration of the castle's curtain wall and creation of a new 360 degree Medieval Wall Walk atop the castle's ancient ramparts, restoration and re-interpretation of the Victorian Prison, and the building of a new vault to house Magna Carta and Charter of the Forest with a widescreen cinema for showing films about the documents.
