Love at first sight for Kerry and Dave at The Grange

An upsizing couple have found their dream family home at a Chestnut Homes development in Scothern, near Lincoln.

House-hunters Kerry and Dave Broughton were initially sceptical about buying new, but were won over by the charm and community feel of The Grange, a small development of just 30 homes off Heath Lane.

Kerry, 39, and Dave, 46, purchased a four-bedroom detached house overlooking the green open space at the development. And the couple, who previously lived in a three-bedroom house two miles away in Welton, say their new house offers much more space for them and their two children, Katie, 19, and Joshua, six.

Kerry said: “We’d lived in Welton for years, so we wanted to stay nearby and not have to leave our friends in Lincolnshire. “Our old house was just becoming too small and with Joshua growing up we began to step on each-others toes. “As soon as we stepped into The Grange we were hooked. From the moment we started looking, we wanted a home which wasn’t in a big estate and which gave us privacy from a main road. “The Grange was just too good to turn down and we reserved our home very soon after our visit. “Our new home is perfect for our needs. It gives us enough space so we’re not on top of each other and because the development is quite small, we feel part of a close-knit community.”

Kerry and Dave used Chestnut Homes’ Part Exchange scheme to escape the stress of being in a buying chain after the sale of their previous property fell through. Under the scheme, the developer will make the buyer a fair offer on their previous home, based on independent valuations carried out by at least two estate agents, so they don’t have to find a buyer themselves.

Kerry added: “When our sale fell through, we looked at how the Part Exchange scheme could help us move. Everything was so efficient – we were happy with the price and the turnaround was so quick that we were in our home in no more than six weeks. “It’s certainly something I’d recommend buyers look into if they are struggling with a chain.”

Only two properties remain available to purchase at The Grange – a two-bedroom semi-detached home at £164,950 and a four-bedroom detached home priced at £364,995.
