At Chestnut Homes, we’ve seen countless people - from first-time buyers and couples, to families and downsizers - settle down to enjoy the peaceful life Lincolnshire has to offer.

There is so much to explore and many fascinating places to visit, that you’ll never be bored.

Here’s our top ten list of reasons to move to Lincolnshire:

1. Beautiful countryside

From rolling hills to the stunning coast, Lincolnshire is packed with lovely views, picturesque villages and historic market towns. It’s the perfect place for outdoor lovers with plenty of scenic walks and cycling routes. Discover amazing places to visit across the Lincolnshire Wolds.

2. The Historic Lincoln Cathedral

Recognisable from miles around, the magnificent Lincoln Cathedral sits on a hilltop and acts as a beacon over the city, welcoming visitors from far and wide. With a history spanning more than 950 years, take one of its cathedral tours to find out more about this special building.

3. Coastal charm

Renowned for its wide open stretches of sandy beaches, Lincolnshire is also home to popular seaside resorts such as Skegness and Mablethorpe. Explore some of the lovely coastal villages, like Sutton on Sea, and enjoy a spot of traditional seaside entertainment. Sample the local pubs and cafés on offer, or indulge in that essential plate of fish and chips by the seaside.

4. Lincoln Castle

The historic county of Lincolnshire positively teems with interesting buildings, grand houses and castles. Lincoln Castle, built by William the Conqueror in 1068, tops the must-see list with its impressive vantage points, the Victorian prison and the Magna Carta vault.

5. Cultural attractions

Tattershall Castle, maintained by the National Trust, is a moated 15th century castle featuring one of the finest surviving examples of medieval brickwork. History buffs and gardening fans will also enjoy visits to other Lincolnshire gems such as Gunby Hall and Doddington Hall & Gardens. Pop Belvoir Castle, Burghley House and Belton Estate on your essential viewing list too.

6. Outdoor markets

Local folk love a bustling market - and there’s plenty to choose from if you’re thinking of moving to Lincolnshire. Craft markets and monthly farmers’ markets jostle with popular food festivals and country fairs to give people plenty of shopping and food options. Pick up some unusual gifts at the monthly Lincoln Makers’ Market on Castle Hill.

7. Visit the Lincolnshire Show

This essential calendar event is a mighty celebration of rural Lincolnshire and its farming heritage, and is the county’s largest agricultural show, attended by thousands of people each year. The Show, held at the Lincolnshire Showground, also features entertainment, food, shopping and music, ideal for a sunny day out for all the family.

8. Enjoy the local food

Lincolnshire is often referred to as the ‘breadbasket of the UK’ because of the amount of food produced in the county - about 30% of the nation’s vegetables are grown here. As well as potatoes, cauliflowers and carrots among many, its rich silt soil is also ideal for cereal crops. And not forgetting it’s the home of the famous Lincolnshire sausage.

9. The International Bomber Command Centre

This world-class facility is a memorial and interpretation centre that commemorates the unique history of the Second World War’s RAF Bomber Command. It tells the story of the command’s extensive loss of crews and aircraft through a detailed historical archive.

10. Transport links

Despite its rural location, Lincolnshire has good transport links, with the A1, A46 and A52 providing easy access to major cities like Nottingham, Leicester, Sheffield, and beyond. The county has several train stations, with routes to London, and around 6.5 million passengers passing through Greater Lincolnshire's rail stations every year. The city of Lincoln has benefitted from a multi-million-pound transportation hub too, and northern Lincolnshire is set to receive millions in government funding for local transport schemes.
