Wayne finds it’s cheaper to buy, at Riverside
A father-of-two who was renting an apartment beside the River Witham in Boston has found he is saving more than £200 a month by buying an apartment of his own.
Wayne Ash was renting a two-bedroom apartment at Chestnut Homes’ Riverside development when his children, nine-year-old Harvey and six-year-old Katy, persuaded him to pop into the sales office when work began on a new phase of homes at the site.
Wayne was pleasantly surprised to hear, by making use of the Help to Buy scheme, he was able to buy an apartment of the same size and design in the new phase and save money.
Wayne said: “I’d been out walking with the kids, who asked to go in the sales centre. I got talking to Polly the sales advisor and it just went from there.
“I was renting a two-bedroom ground floor apartment for £670 a month, so I knew how good quality the homes were.
“Now I have a second floor apartment which is the same size as my previous home, it overlooks the river, and my mortgage payments are £459 per month.
“I’ve got fantastic views with the Marina and the Boston Stump – my balcony is south facing, so it gets the sun all day, and I love sitting out there for hours.
“It’s a good location too, as it’s only a five-minute walk from town.”
Help to Buy enables purchasers to buy a new home with just a five per cent deposit and a 75 per cent mortgage.
The remaining 20 per cent of the purchase price is provided by the Government, as an equity loan, which is interest-free for five years.
Wayne said he had been particularly impressed by the personable approach and level of attention to detail of the Chestnut Homes team.
He said: “It’s the little things which make a big difference with Chestnut Homes – for example, their team have gone to great lengths to keep the development looking its best.
“When we moved in, my six-year-old went straight up to a builder and asked where her daddy’s new home was. He took her right there and helped her unpack.
“Everyone at Chestnut Homes has been like that. I bought my apartment off-plan, because I knew the high standard I could expect, and they were great at keeping me updated throughout the process.
“Buying off-plan, I was able to choose fixtures and fittings, so my new apartment is just as I wanted it. To have all of this and to actually be in a better financial position is fantastic – I couldn’t ask for more.”
