How to get involved in The Big Help Out: Lincolnshire

In honour of the King’s Coronation on 8 May, Brits are being encouraged to take up a volunteering role on the day of the bank holiday. The drive to support local volunteering organisations has been dubbed The Big Help Out. The overall aim is to bring communities together through helping local causes and to inspire the next generation of volunteers.

Local charities to volunteer with in Lincolnshire

Volunteering spans a variety of different sectors including environmental, social, healthcare, sports and leisure, animals and tourism. Positions can be for one-off events, a weekly or monthly slot over a period of time, or even a permanent part-time or full-time position.

There are plenty of charities close to home that are currently recruiting volunteers. Big nationwide organisations like the Wildlife Trust, Oxfam and Age UK all offer volunteering positions across the UK in their local branches, both in person or in remote capacities such as manning helplines or web and digital support.

If you’re looking to sign up through local channels, browse opportunities and apply to become a volunteer through the Lincolnshire County Council website. You’ll learn new skills, meet people and make friends in the surrounding community, while making a difference to your local area. You just need to be above the age of sixteen but training and support will be supplied. From supporting local wildlife and environments through the Lincolnshire Chalk Streams Project, to sports and activity outreach programmes through Positive Futures Lincolnshire, there are all manner of positions to get stuck into.

There are also regional charities and accredited volunteer centres that bring together volunteering opportunities, such as the Lincolnshire Community & Voluntary Service. No matter your personal interest or time available, they will be able to match you with the perfect volunteer role.
