Lincolnshire housebuilder saddles up for charity bike ride for a 12th year

A Lincolnshire housebuilder has shown its support for the annual Castle to Coast to Castle (C2C2C) charity bike ride for the 12th year, raising money for six local charities.

Chestnut Homes, which has developments in Alford, Boston, Market Rasen, Coningsby, Sibsey and Dunholme, has taken part in the popular bike ride ever since its beginnings in 2011.

This year’s donations have helped to raise more than £40,000 for the Bereavement Centre, East Coast Homeless Outreach, Men's Sheds, MS Society, The Salvation Army, Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance and St Barnabas Hospice.

Starting with only 79 riders in its first year, when participants raised £2550, the Lincolnshire event has grown massively, with this year’s event welcoming nearly 500 cyclists.

Originally launched as a way to encourage the Lincolnshire business community to get outdoors, riders can opt for the 100-mile ride or the more challenging 124-mile route, with both heading towards the coast before looping back.

Olivia Stephenson, marketing manager at Chestnut Homes, said: “As a Lincolnshire business that prides itself on building communities, the C2C2C bike ride has become a tradition for us. Not only do our colleagues take part to help raise money, but we have been a sponsor of the event from the very start.

“Our managing director David Newton was the first at Chestnut Homes to take part in the race, back when sign-ups were done on a clipboard at the local pub.

“We’re incredibly proud of our team for its continued charity efforts and we’re pleased that we could help C2C2C reach another donation milestone. It’s been fantastic to see the turnout grow each year and how so many charities have benefitted from this great cause. We look forward to raising even more money at next year’s event.”

C2C2C is one of the many charitable initiatives the housebuilder has taken part in within the last year. Chestnut Homes have also supported food banks with donations, taken part in Macmillan coffee mornings and sponsored two sculptures at St Barnabas’ HeART trail.
