Street names at The Quadrant to honour Wyberton’s history

Illustrious former Wyberton figures will be honoured at a landmark new housing development being built just outside the village.

Chestnut Homes has announced the road names for the first two phases of The Quadrant development, which is being built between Tytton Lane East and the A16. The scheme will deliver 500 new homes, commercial premises, and a new stadium for Boston United Football Club.

Each of the streets will have a local connection, with several carrying the names of notable figures from Wyberton and the surrounding area’s past.

The road leading from the development to the football stadium will be named Pilgrim Way, a nod to the nickname of Boston United, which itself was inspired by the Pilgrim Fathers, who set sail from Boston in search of religious freedom in 1607.

Scott Drive, which will separate the new homes from the commercial premises to the east of the development, has been named after George Gilbert Scott Jr, who restored St Leodegar’s Church in Wyberton.

Webster Walk refers to William Webster, a local builder who later worked on several embankment projects on the River Thames, and Field Drive pays tribute to William Field, who provided four cottages for poor widows in the village.

Wells Place is named after the Wells family, who had a manor in Wyberton in the 14th Century, and who are also believed to have held the moated site of ‘Wells Slade’, later known as Wyberts Castle, in the 19th Century.

David Newton, Managing Director of Chestnut Homes, said: “Wyberton is a village with a rich heritage, so we thought that it would be fitting to name the first roads at The Quadrant after those who have played such an important part in its history.

“The Quadrant is a hugely exciting project for the area, and we hope that our choice of street names will help to keep Wyberton’s illustrious past alive.”

A range of two, three, four and five-bedroom homes is currently available at The Quadrant, with prices starting from £149,950.
