Becky is always very busy (well that’s what she tells us!)…actually she IS, since becoming a mum. She now fits five days’ work into three…no wonder she’s grumpy most of the time!
Becky spends lots of time playing with her daughter, but sometimes that crosses over into the office, but we are getting used to seeing gold stars on some of the work now! Becky is quite driven, and likes to see things through, which has earned her the title of “the terrier” in the office…beware!
Rob has worked his way up from bricklayer to Site Manager, to Contracts Manager, and now he is our Construction Manager – but he still keeps up the site tradition of stopping for breakfast at 9.30 in the morning…..although we have weaned off bringing a flask in now!
He still hankers after buying a Lambretta to re-live his younger days – we think the only thing stopping him is that the helmet would spoil his immaculate hair (see photo!)………..
The “Man in Black” (see photo!). Marc likes to do a bit of cycling in his spare time…and we mean a bit…but he has managed a 100 mile charity ride a few times, so he must do more than we think! Marc is also “Mr Tech”….he fixes all of our IT bits…the trouble is he’s so far ahead of the rest of us in that area, we struggle to understand what he’s done! He’s Rob’s son, but he does not appear to be too traumatised by that!
Most people plan one holiday ahead - Liz plans loads! She lives for them….anything from a 5 star hotel…to a two man tent (but a luxury two man tent of course!). Liz is also a “keen” swimmer; although we have it on good authority she often does not make it as far as the pool….she just sits and has a nice coffee…then wets her hair so that her partner Andy is none the wiser when she gets home.
The “Spreadsheet King” - you can’t beat a good spreadsheet…and the longer the formula the better (whether it works or not!). Paul likes his gadgets, and judging by the number of parcels that arrive for him on a daily basis, he just about keeps Amazon and TNT in business on his own! Fortunately his wife does not look at this website, so the secret is safe with us Paul !!.
Keith has a thankless task…the MD thinks he pays too much for materials…the suppliers say they are too cheap…but he manages it with a smile on his face! Out of work, Keith keeps himself busy…baking (we enjoy his Birthday when he brings some of his lovely cakes in!); caravanning (he’s often found in a muddy field in the middle of nowhere); Canoeing; cycling (but not far!)…and walking his dog Jensen! As we say…he keeps himself busy………….
Sandra is another one who likes her numbers…Zzzzzzz! Out of work she is married to Keith (actually I suppose she is also married to him at work!)…and they pop off in their shiny new caravan at every opportunity…as long as Keith does the cooking! But we are slightly concerned about her…she never has the light on in her office….all you can see is her little face glowing from her computer screen…is she from the dark side??
Neil drives around the county in a big car purporting to buy land, but judging by the price we pay for sites….we really think he is working for the opposition! Due to his “spikey” hair, he is known as the ‘The Mole’ – luckily his two lovely daughters have inherited their hair from their mum! Neil has just taken up cycling…and is the classic MAMIL (middle aged man in lycra!)…not such a good look, but the exercise is good for him!
Jess joined us as a graduate. As a student she learned to find the best deals on food…so she soon made friends with Keith when she realised what a good cook he was! He now often arrives with extra lunch supplies for her! Jess has been bitten by the cycling bug…but had a painful start. She decided to buy a turbo trainer so she could start cycling indoors during the cold winter months…only to trap her hand in it when trying to do the assembly bit…so off the A&E with a broken hand….fortunately things have gone better since (although there's still the odd moan about a sore bum…or is that too much detail?)
As you would expect in her role, Sarah is “Mrs Organised”…..and she needs to be to keep our Directors in check! But she has gradually also turned into “Mrs Runner” Not long ago Sarah was cajoled into running the Lincoln 10k. All through the training, all we heard was “I’ll never be able to do this”. Since then she has joined a running club; thinks nothing of running 10k after work…and has done a half marathon! She also loves her “pamper days”….and her birthdays are always special to her. Initially, she had a birthday (like the rest of us)…then a birthday weekend…this year it's moved onto a “birthday week….can’t wait for next year!
Rob joined us after doing a sport & fitness course at college…always a good grounding to be a Site Manager (really?). Rob soon adapted to site life and became a very good Site Manager (really?). Not long ago, Rob “voluntarily” transferred to the office (really? - I think the phrase “came in kicking and screaming” is more apt)! But now loves it (really?). Rob now has a varied role with anything from construction to marketing to customer care to design….I’m sure he must like something within all that! Out of work, Rob has turned into a real family man. I would not say that his family is growing, but the other night he took home our labelling machine….so he could pop one on each of them!
With an unerring ability never to be wrong Dave has successfully led Chestnut Homes since forming the company over 25 years ago. His ability to tell people what to do stems largely from having done everyone else’s job at some point in the past. He is always very keen to pass on his many years of construction experience and can often be heard recounting tales of “when I was on site…”
